I connect people to ideas through events, public programs, and design platforms. I do much of this at Works Progress, an experience design collective I co-founded in 2009. My partner, Shanai, and I write about the work we do at We Work Here. Please say hello at "colin.kloecker at gmail dot com" and also on Facebook, Flickr, or Twitter. I'd love to hear from you.

Made in Minneapolis. Take that Portland! (via Matty Lang)
Bike boxes are coming to Minneapolis!
This is fantastic! I posted about bike boxes almost a year ago. Already common in bike-friendly cities like Portland, bike boxes are going to be a welcome addition to roads here.
Shanai and her cohorts at Bike Walk Twin Cities pointed me towards some exciting new data from the American Community Survey:
Portland 2006: 5.1% 2007: 4.7%
Minneapolis 2006: 3.4% 2007: 4.3%
(See “COMMUTING TO WORK” > “Other means”)
Assuming these trends continue, the 2008 data should show that Minneapolis has more people choosing to bike to work then Portland. I guess our Mayor was right when he said Portland is just a street in Minneapolis.
Oops, this isn’t exactly true! I should have wrote that Minneapolis will have a HIGHER PERCENTAGE of people biking to work then Portland. Sorry for the confusion!
Right now we’re ranked number 2, but Portland is just a street in Minneapolis.

Mayor R. T. Rybak, as observed on Facebook. He wants to make Minneapolis the most bikeable city in the US.
Also, our Mayor loves Facebook.
